Sebastien Mouzon

Champagne Mouzon-Leroux

Sébastien Mouzon crafts a range of biodynamic champagnes from the village of Verzy in the Montagne de Reims. Verzy is comprised of a series of hills and valleys with a north easterly exposure. The soils here include a large amount of flint - not very common in Champagne - and this lends Sébastien’s wines a racy and pervasive minerality. Biodiversity is encouraged in the form of grazing by organic chickens and sheep, and Sébastien is actively planting trees to promote the return of nesting birds, insects and other animals. The base cuvée is called L’Atavique, a blend of all 60 parcels farmed in Verzy - 35% chardonnay from fine chalk in the eastern valley, and 65% pinot noir from topsoil and deep clay in the western valleys. L’Ascendant is the solera version of the same wine, and we also offer L’Angelique (blanc de blancs), L’Ineffable (blanc de noirs), and the single vineyard La Blanche Voie. Wines are lightly dosed, if at all, and made with minimal sulphur. They are a true representation of Verzy, packed full of energy and precision, and a joy to drink.
